Hello - God to Earth - Knock Knock

Copyright (c) 2008 Mary Ann Boulette

Often in my life when I have had both my eyes and ears closed, God has had to hit me over the head in order to get my attention. When He does get through, it is usually an amazing experience and that is what happened this last weekend.

I have a whole side of my mother's family that over the years I have lost touch with and there has been sadness in me because of it. And yet, for whatever reason, I have done nothing about it. I have 3 first cousins who at one time were an important part of my life. My mother and I would go every other summer to Pennsylvania and spend a month or more visiting everyone and spending time at my grandpap's old house in the middle of the woods surrounded by coal mines long ago closed down. After my mother and my aunt died, my cousins and I would talk every Christmas Eve -- it was a family tradition started by our mothers years before -- a tradition which for whatever reason just stopped in the early 90's and I have not done my part to reach out to my cousins in 16 years.

Now, I am fast approaching my 60th birthday, and I have been experiencing for want of a better term, a mid life crisis (or perhaps its just menopause run amok). It has something to do with realizing that I am closer to the end of my days than the beginning and this realization has had a philosophical effect on me. I have been searching for a way to fill up small holes in my heart and soul by beginning to write again, and having made other changes in my life, but still finding something missing. There has been an uneasy in me as if I am being told that something gigantic is going to happen and I need to prepare for it.

For the last month with the attention of our country focused on the Pennsylvania primary those feelings have only grown stronger. Seeing and hearing about places I have been to and that were a part of my youth, opened a flood gate of emotions that I was not sure how to deal with or even what was really causing all this unrest.

Then this past week, Pope Benedict came to the US on what some were calling his Tour of Reconciliation. After hearing His Holiness speak on the value of being part of a family, I knew that I had to find every one of the cousins that I spent summers with and I needed to do it now.

Early Saturday morning, I logged on to the internet and spent time finding phone numbers. I only found 2 but after spending two hours on the phone with my cousin Bruce (who was a toddler when I last saw him) I had more phone numbers and before I went to bed, I called and talked to most of my family. What is really strange is that they each told me that the day before, they had been thinking about me and remembering my mother -- see God was working on their side also. So, after 16 years, I have most of my family back and there are third cousins and fourth cousins -- members of my family I have never met nor even knew about.

My point in telling this story is to open a dialogue with as many people as possible on how our mobile society has separated families by many miles and often years. The foundation of our society begins in the family and that foundation is broken or at the very least cracked. I believe that before this country can repair our economy or our foreign policy, or any of the major problems facing us, we need to rebuild the foundation our nation was built on -- the foundation of family and community, as these are two of the major principles that our country was founded on. It is a time for rebuilding our nation but with a cracked foundation our people and our country can not get back to where it needs to be. Until we get back to our roots and stop our moral compass from spinning uncontrollably, we can never get our country right with the rest of the world.

So, if you haven't talked or visited your families lately -- pick up the phone, or write a letter -- anything to strengthen that bond. Then we can all move forward together to fix the many problems this great land of ours is facing. Perhaps we can even get back to a place and time where everyone knows their neighbors, and family time doesn't revolve around the television. All our modern conveniences have made us forget the human touch, like writing a thank you note, sitting out in the backyard in the early evening just talking, saying hi to the postman, and the feeling of security that the sense of community brings. We need to relearn how to stop and just listen to the simple sound of silence.

Our country has been going down the wrong road for so long now and it is time to take the path less traveled again instead of continuing to recklessly speed down the super highway that eventually will just lead us and our country nowhere.

And finally, to my family -- I am so very sorry that I have been so wrapped up in my own life that I forgotten about you. I hope you can forgive me and I promise all of you (you all as we say in Texas) that it will never happen again -- for we share a common heritage and we all came from the same young couple who immigrated to the United States so many years ago.

Embrace Christian Dating for Better Relationships

Sometimes Christians feel like they do not have a variety to choose from in the dating pool. It is against the biblical teachings to date a person who does not subscribe to your religious teachings because he/she may affect your faith. Christian dating is a tricky game and many will agree with me that their soul rests in peace when they finally go down the aisle. Before that they are always uncertain about their married lives. This is because there are few romantic relationships between single Christians. Every body is a brother or a sister in christ and only platonic relationships are expected. On the other hand people outside the church seem to have better relationships since they are not enslaved by Christianity. Bad relationships are yielded when the real personality of people is not exposed.

Christian dating has some inhibitions like touching and kissing. Making love leaves the parties in major guilty trips. This in my opinion leads to the dating Christian couples to be in a big rush to tie the knot. This gives them a license to be intimate as much as they wish but what happens when you find out that your spouse has some sexual traits you do not like? Do you call it quit? No, divorce is against the Christian teaching. When sexual expectations are not met one party is under real pressure to stray away resulting into very bad relationships. Better relationships come out of patience. My advice to Christians is to give the relationship ample time to mature. Decision  to get married is best made when each party has learnt the other adequately.

Christian dating sites offer good services to the faithful. They offer matchmaking services and also some helpful advice concerning your dating life. Some people are too serious with God and before they know it age is catching up with them. Do not be frustrated, visit a free Christian dating site and get a solution. Girls are keen to respond to the the biblical teachings. According to a survey carried out recently in churches, single Christian ladies are more in number compared to Christian gentlemen. A higher percentage of women are panicking when they do not find love in church. They engage in weird activities in search of genuine soul mates. Desperate measures in search of attention result into bad relationships. Better relationships are as a result of personal love. Love God and others will love you equally.

Have you ever felt left behind when your peers do something you have not? Surprisingly, this is happening a lot in church. Peer pressure is everywhere. Define who you really are and do not allow others to define you. When you are sure of your identity, even if all your friends in the choir get married, you will remain unshaken. God's timing is the best so wait patiently for better relationships. He created you and so he knows best where your limb is. This way you will never know how a bad relationships feels like. Christian dating is exclusive but the best. It does not interfere with your morals.

A ruptured ovarian cyst: how common are they, and how life threatening are they?

I went to St. Alphonsus Emergency Room, yesterday, april 1st, and was diagnosed with a ruptured ovarian cyst.....I am freaked out! I don't know much about this condition, and I really need to know more: especially the symptoms that occur in regards to ovarian cysts, and what ruptured ovarian cysts entail..

Ovarian cysts are very common among women of child bearing age. They can go away themselves, or in some cases continue to increase in size until they rupture. This can be dangerous if not treated, but since you have already been checked out, I don't think you have anything to worry about. When they rupture, how you feel depends on what the cyst contained, whether it is infected and whether there is any bleeding. There will usually be some pain when a cyst ruptures, but it should only be severe pain if there is bleeding or infection.

In the long term, conventional medical approaches to ovarian cysts are very limited, and treat the symptoms rather than the underlying root cause. Now that your cyst has ruptured, it should go away, but it is quite likely that it will come back again. You are much more likely to get rid of your cyst once and for all if you take a holistic approach to treatment.

There's a good info site below should hopefully answer a lot of your questions. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Dubai at Easter – the Perfect Time to Visit!

Getting away for some sun in Europe this Easter break may be touch and go because this year the holiday falls rather inconveniently in the last week of March, much earlier than it has in the last few years. However, only six hours away by air the United Arab Emirates offers a marvellous family holiday alternative that includes guaranteed sunshine and lots to do for everyone.

Unless you’ve had your head under a rock for the last ten years, you’ll be aware that Dubai has grown considerably to become one of the region’s biggest tourist draws, with gorgeous five-star luxury hotels such as the Grand Hyatt and the impressive ‘wave-breaking’ Jumeirah Beach hotel being dazzling features of the Emirate. Indeed a United Arab Emirates holiday is fast making it onto more people’s ‘must-do’ lists as more details emerge of exactly what is on offer in the region.

The ideal time for visiting Dubai is during the winter months of December to March when temperatures are pleasantly warm, averaging 24°C during the day and around 16°C in the evening; ideal for this year’s Easter holiday. During the oppressive heat and humidity of summer temperatures can reach the mid-40s, often proving too hot for European tourists. There are occasional showers during March but with only 18mm rainfall in total falls during the month when the sun shines, it does so for an average of 8.5 hours each day.

As well as the climate being ideal for a Dubai Easter holiday, the region also offers a whole host of diverse and fantastic activities for the entire family. Beaches are sandy and very well-maintained in Dubai, with many being attached to the beachside hotels which also offer excellent kids’ clubs and leisure facilities designed to appeal to the entire family.

A Dubai family holiday also offers plenty of excursions if you fancy some time away from the beach or pool, such as the immensely popular 4x4 desert safari adventure. This exciting day trip, which also treats participants to dinner at a Bedouin village, is considered by many as the number one organised trip and a ‘must-do’ on any UAE holiday.

But, it’s not just super sun activities that you can enjoy on a Dubai holiday because incredibly, winter sports enthusiasts can also ski and snowboard in the heart of the desert. At the Mall of the Emirates in the heart of Dubai is a 22,500 square metre indoor ski resort - Ski Dubai - where you can also enjoy tobogganing or simply playing in the snow. There are five ski runs, the longest being a black run 400 metres in length with a 60 metres drop, and in addition there’s a massive 90 metre quarter pipe for snowboarders to show off or perfect their skills. At Ski Dubai you can hire everything, so don’t worry about packing any skis, snowboards or ski suits as they are all available at the resort.

But even if it’s not possible for you to enjoy a luxury Dubai holiday this Easter keep it on your ‘must-do’ list for the future. It is a fantastic holiday destination at any time of the year apart from during the oppressively hot summer months - unless of course you can stand the heat!

Who can tell me about Divine Mercy?

What is Divine Mercy?

What is the Chaplet of Divine Mercy?

What Is Divine Mercy Sunday?

Who is ST. Sister Faustina?

What is the importance of (AKA - The meaning behind) Divine Mercy?

The Divine Mercy Message and Devotion

The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us — all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy.

The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC:

A - Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world.

B - Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us.

C - Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive.

This message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of saint faustina kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God's mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread.

The message and devotional practices proposed in the Diary of Saint Faustina and set forth in this web site and other publications of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception are completely in accordance with the teachings of Church and are firmly rooted in the Gospel message of our Merciful Savior. Properly understood and implemented, they will help us grow as genuine followers of Christ.

Spend time to learn more about the mercy of God, learn to trust in Jesus, and live your life as merciful to others, as Christ is merciful to you.

Devine Mercy Sunday

MESSAGE FOR ALL CATHOLICS:

“JESUS IS IN THE CONFESSIONAL”

Despite evil’s attempts at discrediting Catholic Priests, many fallen-away Catholics will soon be returning to the practice of their faith. The reason: the Church’s new feast on the Sunday after Easter. What new feast you might say? It is the “Feast of Divine Mercy”. The Catholic Church has been celebrating this feast ever since the Vatican had made it official on April 30th in the Jubilee year 2000. Why would every Catholic want to come back, you might ask? It is the promise that Jesus Himself made for a complete forgiveness of sins and punishment on that day, even to the most terrible sinner imaginable. God in His great mercy is giving mankind a last chance for salvation.

When did Jesus make this promise and how does one get it? Jesus left all the details in a diary that He commanded Saint Faustina to write in the 1930’s. It was her job to record everything that He wanted mankind to know about His mercy before He returns to judge the world. To get this great promise one has to go to Confession and then receive Holy Communion on that Feast of Divine Mercy, which has now been called Divine Mercy Sunday throughout the whole Church. jesus said, “Whoever approaches the Fountain of Life on this day will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.” (Diary, 300) To receive Communion worthily one should be in the state of grace and without serious sin.

How many today receive Holy Communion with souls stained with mortal sins? When a person receives the true Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus in Holy Communion without first going to Confession to cleanse their souls, that soul is going even deeper into sin. Many have not confessed their sins in a long time so this special promise of a complete pardon is an incentive to come to Him, with trust, before He returns again soon.

In Saint Faustina’s diary, she recorded that Jesus also indicated that He Himself is there in the confessional. He told her, “When you approach the confessional, know this, that I Myself am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I Myself act in your soul. Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy. Tell souls that from this fount of mercy souls draw graces solely with the vessel of trust. If their trust is great, there is no limit to My generosity." (1602)

Jesus knew that people would need to hear these words today, so He went on to say “Come with faith to the feet of My representative...and make your confession before Me. The person of the priest is, for Me, only a screen. Never analyze what sort of a priest that I am making use of; open your soul in confession as you would to Me, and I will fill it with My light." (1725) "Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy.” (1602)

Many feel that their sins are unforgivable but, Jesus said, “Were a soul like a decaying corpse, so that from a human standpoint, there would be no hope of restoration and everything would already be lost, it is not so with God. The miracle of Divine Mercy restores that soul in full. In the Tribunal of Mercy (the sacrament of Confession) ...the greatest miracles take place and are incessantly repeated." (1448) "Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy.” (1602) Every sin imaginable could be forgiven by Him!

So many people are weighed down by sin and their prideful nature keeps them away from the confession of their sins. They are living in misery. Jesus said, “Oh, how miserable are those who do not take advantage of the miracle of God’s mercy! You will call out in vain, but it will be too late." (1448) "Tell aching mankind to snuggle close to My merciful Heart, and I will fill it with peace." (1074) "There is no misery that could be a match for My mercy.” (1273) Jesus came to restore sinners and one would be foolish to turn away.

On the evening of His resurrection Jesus appeared to His Apostles and the first thing that He did was to give them the power to forgive sins (John 20:19-31). This is done through the power of the Holy Spirit. For sure it was not the Lord’s intention just for the Apostles to forgive sins but rather for that power to be passed down through the Holy Spirit to the priests of today. That is why Confession is so much of an uplifting experience; we are actually receiving heavenly graces and the forgiveness of sins from the Lord Himself!

Most people haven’t spent much time thinking about the future. Some might think that they are brilliant and successful in this life, but what is that as compared to eternity? The father of lies has everyone focused on this life while not thinking about what happens in the eternal life. If you really want to be wise, think about where you are going to spend eternity. We will be there for quite a long time. Many do not believe in the fires of hell. Unfortunately, those are the ones that usually will end up there. Be wise, think about it!

Remember these words of Jesus, “ I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment." (699) "Souls perish in spite of My bitter Passion. I am giving them the last hope of salvation; that is, the Feast of My Mercy. If they will not adore My mercy, they will perish for all eternity...tell souls about this great mercy of Mine, because the awful day, the day of My justice, is near.” (965) Wake up people of the World, and repent of your sins, this just might be our last hope of salvation!

Contact your local Catholic Church and arrange go to Confession as soon as you can, so that you may be ready always to receive Jesus in Holy Communion, especially on Divine Mercy Sunday, when you can receive the total forgiveness of your sins and punishment!

The origins of Halloween

The origins of Halloween date back 2000 years to the times of the Celts who lived around the British Isles and Northern France. 1st November was their new year, the end of the summer after the harvest had been collected. The night before was their Samhain festival when they believed the worlds of the living and the dead were closest and the dead could return to earth. On the night of 31st October the Druids lit huge bonfires where people offered crops and animals as sacrificial offering to the Celtic deities.

During the Roman occupation the festival of Samhain merged with the Roman festivals of Feralia which celebrated the passing of he dead and Pomona who was a Roman goddess of fruit and trees. Going into the Middle Ages when Christianity had spread into this area, the church attempted to replace the old traditional festivals with religious celebrations. The term Halloween is derived from “All Hallows’ Eve” the eve of All Hallows’ Day, which is also known today as all saints day. All Saints Day was celebrated on 13th May until Popes Gregory III and IV moved it to the 1st November.

Pumpkins

The pumpkin has become one of the main symbols of Halloween, back in Celtic times a skeleton or carved turnip would be placed on a window sill to ward off spirits. The use of pumpkins comes from North America where they are more readily available and are easier to carve. They were originally associated with the harvest time not becoming associated with Halloween until the mid to late 19th Century.

Trick or Treat

Another import from North America is the term “Trick or Treating” where children dress up in costumes and go from door to door asking for treats, usually confectionery. The trick is an idle threat to perform some of mischief on the owners property if no treat is forthcoming. However the tradition itself dates back to Britain and Ireland when young poor children would go from door to door singing and saying prayers for the dead in return for food. The modern form of trick or treating has now spread to countries all over the world.

Parties and Games

Parties are a common way of celebrating Halloween these days. There are various games and activities associated these parties, such as apple bobbing where participants must pick floating apples from a basin using only their teeth. This game could date back to Roman festival of Pomona, the symbol for which was the apple. It is said that if unmarried women look into a mirror in a darkened room on Halloween then they will see their future husband, however, if they are to remain unmarried then a skull will appear.

Foods associated with Halloween include toffee apples or candy apples, apple cider, bonfire toffee, popcorn, baked potatoes and pumpkin pie.

Anyone hosting a Halloween party may need a professionally designed invitation, Invite it Write have a range of Halloween Party Invitations featuring pumpkins, fire, zombies and fireworks. Tell them the text you wish to appear on the invitations and a professional designer will layout the invitation. Printed invitations can be purchased at a very reasonable cost with envelopes included, or a PDF file can be sent to your computer for you to print on your own printer, a great low cost option for anyone leaving preparations to the last minute.
