Protestants v Catholics – Faith Irony
A while ago I read a Catholic layperson who was keen to start his own Catholic based and focused business describing his trepidation that his business may fail as Catholics are known to be lukewarm in supporting faith resources businesses. He continued saying that Protestant faith related businesses do well because of support from their faithful.
Catholic theology teaches that we have to work out our salvation and merely saying that Jesus is our personal savior will not lead us to heaven. Protestants on the other hand believe that we cannot save ourselves and only faith in Jesus guarantees our salvation.
If so, then we should expect Catholics to be keen to find out how to increase their faith so that they can be saved from eternal damnation. For the Protestant on the contrary, they don't need to do anything except believe that their faith in Jesus has already saved them.
Thus we should expect Catholics to patronize Catholic resource stores. And this is the irony - it's not so. It's as if Catholics believe that their Catholic baptism has saved them but the Protestant avail themselves of all possible resources to advance their faith.
This reminds me of the parable of the man who asked two of his sons to work the fileld. One said yes but didn't do so and the other said no but actually completed the work.
Wouldn't it be great for the souls of Catholics, if more of them could be like the Protestants who are more devoted to their faith?
Protestant religious stores/sites sell their products for lower prices than catholic religious stores/sites.
I always have to buy bibles for prisoners from protestant stores/sites as they are more than 50% cheaper. They want the Word to get out there. Whereas catholic’s want to much profit.
