Jesus Christ Was Physically Attractive
For a long time, I have been entertaining thoughts that Jesus Christ was an attractive person. I have observed from my own experiences that people to tend to listen more to a person who is attractive than someone who is less attractive.
I mentioned to my wife some years ago, that Jesus must have been handsome as well, as what he was preaching would have been less palatable if he was ugly or just a plain Jack. Of course I don’t think that he had movie-star looks like George Clooney though.
This article by Laraine Bennett, Is Beauty Skin Deep?, tends to validate my hypothesis of Jesus’ attractiveness.
God is biased towards beauty. Although he could have been born ugly, He chose being beautiful as this is who He is. Anything less would have been a lie or patronizing. Of course I don’t suppose that Jesus was the most handsome guy to have walked the planet – I think?!
Based on this article, I doubt that, if Jesus was ugly, he would have been able to muster 12 Apostles and hundreds of disciples within 3 years. It’s human nature to look towards beauty and therefore we also tend to pay attention to a beautiful message from a beautiful person. The message will be more readily internalized when the messenger is attractive physically and in heart.
It was Jesus’ beauty that set the ball rolling for His message to take root and grow over two thousand years.
Just a thought to add…
…he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
(Isaiah 53:2-4)
That is an interesting question to ponder. I never thought about His physical appearance making a difference in the way people followed Him, but I guess it does make sense.
Yes, Jesus must have been a very attractive person, physically. He is also physically healthy and strong. My friends and I once discussed this topic. Women in the Bible said, “Happy is the woman who give brith to You.” This is in terms of wisdom, spiritual aspects and physics. . Many times in the Bible, it is mentioned that he had to walk long distance, and when all of His followers fell asleep after walking long distance, He managed to pray for hours. He was strong enough (even very) to bear all the torture during His Passion.
Jesus must have been a handsome man, but I am sure he sweaty got dusty from all the walking he did. He also must have had a magnetic personality. We also have to remember that where jesus is there is the Holy Spirit. To know Him was to love Him unless His ministry threatened ones political or religious status. I don’t imagine he was a pretty sight after roan tribune finished torturing Him. He endured that suffering for each of us.
Because Jesus is the Son of God, the Second Person of thr Blessed Trinity,He was and is God. Therefore His beauty is not just skin deep: everythin about Jesus had to be perfect. He IS a Human being with a human soul but a divine spirit. He was like us, but he was perfect. He was tempted but never sinned
As spoken by Gods word in Isaiah 53: 2-4:
Jesus was an average looking man, nothing about him that set anyone to view him special, Jesus would not want people to accept him because of the outward appearance but the message that he sent to us through our Father in Heaven. Lets not think of viewing our Lord by worldly standards but by Godly.
I have been born again thanks to the grace of God and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ my lord and savior. Amen
Isaiah 53:2-4 Read it for yourself. Lets not assume about what Jesus would or should have looked like. The Bible is pretty clear about that particular question. When we do that, we confuse people and we are already so misguided by the media and people that have not even opened The Word of GOD ( The Bible)
Human wisdom is not to be used to deduce to anything about God when scripture tells us about him exactly. It is interesting to read what reasons people assert in contrary to what the Bible says, and it sometimes amuses me when, after reading somebody scripture that pinpoints clearly on a subject, they will say, “…but…” and pitch me something against to what they just heard. …It is human tendency to romanticize God and make Him something He is not.
