Do you ever get the feeling that you may be doing God's work but you have nothing to indicate that you're successful? Will Catholic prayers help when you face such doubts?
Watch this video and see what exactly God wants us of us. Hint - mother theresa mentioned this once...
Where did the Virgin Birth come from, paganism perhaps?
The virginity of our Blessed Lady was defined under anathema in the third canon of the Lateran Council held in the time of Pope Martin I, A.D. 649. The Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, as recited in the Mass, expresses belief in christ "incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the virgin mary"; the Apostles' Creed professes that jesus christ "was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary".
So If this happened in 649, what was believed for the hundreds of years prior? And why is there NO scriptures and NO prophecies stating that the Messiah will be born of a virgin? The ONLY text in the old testament is in Isaiah, which is claimed to be a "dual" scripture relevant to both then and now. However if you read the scripture you'll find it has nothing to do with the messiah, rather by the time he knows the difference between good and evil two enemy kingdoms will fall? When did two kingdoms fall during Christ's reign? The word virgin in this scripture literally Means "Young Woman"
But the Jewish scholars who translated the Septuagint, about 350 years before christ, translated it as "virgin." Those scholars were looking for a virgin-born Messiah.
In that culture, a young unmarried woman was always presumed to be a virgin (dire consequences if she weren't).
And also, it was to be a "sign." A sign is something God does that is highly unusual, to get our attention. What kind of sign would it be if a young girl got pregnant...?
I'm sorry, but scholarship doesn't back you up on this.
______
Mary Mag: Isis wasn't a virgin, so your assumed connection is wrong.
______
Morgaine, Sorry but you are also incorrect. Research some reliable sources based upon the original stories, and you'll discover that the stories don't compare. Here is a link to an atheist's comments about it -- he actually did the research and found out that there is no connection (as much as he wanted there to be).
why do some christians believe that catholicism isn't christianity?
it's weird cause i've seen alot of answers that mention catholicism being fraud and all when
it was constantine and other men who actually compiled the nicene creed in nicea, and theodosius who made christianity (modern form roman catholicism) the official religion of rome.
and it remained in this form until the protestant reformation...
plus, christians are anyone who believe that jesus was the son of god and follow his teachings. which catholics try to do. so why are ppl still arguing over this?
<3 your asian twinkie atheist
p.s. if i've got any of this info wrong, correct me, but don't forget to give me a real source
i'm sad that it's so obvious that alot of ppl don't even bother researching their own religion and it's founding....makes alot of other christians look bad ;(
Because they either don't know what a Christian is or what a Catholic is. Sometimes both.
I received this Catholic Prayer in my email yesterday and I think it will make you get through your day at work or at home with greater determination.
The Knots Prayer
Dear God:
Please untie the knots that are in my mind, my heart and in my life. Remove the have nots, can nots and do nots that I have in my mind.
Erase the will nots, may nots, might nots that may find a home in my heart.
Release me from the could nots, would nots and should nots that obstruct my life.
And most of all, Dear God, I ask that you remove from my mind, my heart and my life all of the 'am nots' that I have allowed to hold me back, especially the thought that I am not good enough.
Amen
Say this Catholic Prayer before you start your day and you should be better prepared to face your day.
Why do you accept the "bible" and not the hundreds of other books voted out by the council of nicea?
Long, long ago there was a council of "christians" who's religious texts were not the same as the ones in the "bible" (bible meaning: collection of books) They then voted on which books to include and exclude and came up with the nicene creed to define what a Christian is.
Why do you agree with them? Have you researched the other books? Or are you just a head-nodding-pawn?
How could you take the bible literally knowing this? not to mention the old testament was an oral tradition before it was written down, even if it was correct to begin with, how many errors must have been gathered?
Because you forgot one important thing, God was and still is in Control, It was God who not only Inspired those who penned the Scriptures but who also through the Holy Spirit Guided those who decided on the canon, This is why the Bible after 2000 years is still the best seller
Do you feel that acceptance of the Nicene Creed a key part of Christianity?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicene_Creed
Yes and no, there are some that don't believe in the Nicene Creed and the Trinity. I feel it is more or less a way to understand the bible and it's teachings. It give you a better grasp on his words. The bible can be confusing at times, because of how it was written. The writers of the new testament omitted God's name as they didn't want to take his name in vein. However that made it somewhat confusing as they called Jesus and God "Lord" and some had no ideal which they we talking about. However, I believe that as long as you believe in Jesus and that all must go through him for your salvation, as it was written that all things in heaven and earth was given to Jesus by God to Judge and to rule.
