Star Wars Lego New Releases Summer 2010

LEGO have had the Star Wars licence for just over 10 years now and their new wave of sets hit store shelves in the US, Europe and Australia sometime during late 2009 and early 2010. Let's take a look at the latest sets.

Generally, emphasis is still on the Clone Wars side of things with a couple of original trilogy battle packs to cover old school fans. This is largely understandable as The Clone Wars TV series is still growing strong, with Season Two showing in most countries.

These sets fitswith the new pricing of LEGO sets which is getting a little more expensive this year. Like most new sets, if you aren't fussed about the getting minifigs you can pick up the main ships by themselves on ebay for alot less.

The smallest (and cheapest) sets in this wave are the afore mentioned battlepacks. Sets 8083 and 8084 sit at about 80 pieces and feature 4 minifigs in each set for a RRP of $10.99 each. While 8083 features Rebel Troopers, snowtroopers are the big draw in set 8084 and you can expect to see these fly off the shelves as Hoth army builders increase their ranks.

Luke's Landspeeder is a re-release of Luke's trusty speeder from A Hew Hope. Designed to skim across the sands of Tatooine this set has 163 pieces and comes with Luke, Obi Wan and a Storm trooper.  And yes these are the Droids you are looking for, both C3PO and R2-D2 come with the set which makes it a well rounded set for $24.95.

The Republic Swamp Speeder is a set from planet of Kashyyyk as featured in Episode 3. The speeder is nothing to write home about but the set does contain Barriss Offee, a Jedi Commander  who has been never been featured in a set before. Also comes with two battle droids and an Episode 3 clone trooper.

Next biggest set at 177 pieces is a sleek Freeco Speeder featured in an episode of The Clone Wars based on the ice planet Orto Plutonia. The set features two exclusive minifigs, Anakin Skywalker in snow gear and the native Talz chieftain. This set also retails for $24.99.

The Droid Tri Fighter is another re-release and this is an improvement on the original release. It is larger, more detailed and a battle droid can actually fit inside the central control pod. Features 3 battle droids, 268 pieces and retails for $24.99.

The Tie Defender is the only extended Universe offering of this wave, originally featured in the videogame Battlefront: Renegade Squadron. At $49.95 it may seem overly expensive for only 304 pieces and two minifigs (Tie Fighter pilot and stormtrooper). It is a large model though and is highly swooshable opponent for various rebel scum.

The last and largest release in this wave is the ARC -170 Starfighter, another re-release of a popular model. This version was featured in the Clone Wars and comes with Kit Fisto, an astromech droid R4-P44 and two clone pilots (each with different helmet patterns). This set contains 396 pieces and comes in at $59.99 retail. Like most of this wave's sets the ARC-170 contains stickers that need applying.

Overall this first wave of Star Wars LEGO for 2010 is a little more expensive than last year's releases but contains a few exciting figures and new, small vehicles to collect. Hopefully we will get some larger sets in the coming year but with a more satisfying price-per-piece price tag.

Decorating for the Holiday Season

The vacation season is right around the corner, and everybody likes decorating their home according to the season. The most straightforward and least expensive is by trying seasonal throw pillows. By using seasonal throw pillows, the whole house can get a fresh and vibrant look for each season.

Spring is all about freshness and life and thus, throw pillows that have floral themes and garden themes will enhance the look of the room and bring in life and a feeling of freshness to the house. Each season has its own unique qualities which lend itself to setting the mood.

Summer indicates lightness and folks generally wish to stay outside for some time to take in the summertime sun. Throw pillows that have really bright themes and colors such as yellow, orange or white will go well with this season. The leaves start changing color in autumn, and as such, autumn is all is an earthly season. Pillows of neutral colors which incorporate earthly elements will suit the mood of this season.

Winter is a particularly cold season and people like to stay inside and revel in the warmth of home rather than to face the freezing weather outside. Using throw pillows that are of dark colours and have rick colours such as red, magenta or deep blue can make the whole room look cozy and nice. Folk can then hold these throw pillows and sleep cozily and snuggle up to face the winter.

Each vacation has its own significance and there are acceptable throw pillows that can bring in the holiday mood. Using Yuletide based throw pillows that incorporate themes like Reindeers, Chris Cringle, Snow Men and Xmas Decoration can make the entire house look happy and bring in the holiday spirit. Using themes such as snowmen, flowers and homes can make everyone realize the meaning of Thanksgiving. Using floral themes and bunny themes can make the whole house look like it is ready for Easter. Similarly using throw pillows that have designs of the american flag or which have symbolic themes related to America can set the mood for the 4th of July. Stuffed throw pillows and throw pillows that have candles and pumpkins on them can make the whole house groomed for Halloween. Having candelabra and designs that have colorful themes can bring in the Hanukkah spirit.

There are so many ways in which one can incorporate holiday and seasonal themes with the utilization of throw pillows. The whole family including youngsters and also other family members and guests who drop in to the house to celebrate the holiday spirit and spend some family time together can also take in the vacation spirit and feel the essence of the vacation, by viewing the house that is gorgeously embellished with different throw pillows. So, you can now decide to decorate your house according to the season and vacation and confirm your whole family welcomes it together.

Benefits of Native American Turquoise Jewelry

When a jewelry collector goes on their hunt to find jewelry, they want to make sure that the jewelry that they purchase and bring home to their collection case is authentic. When doing a search for such pieces of jewelry for Native American turquoise jewelry, you will find first the many tribes of the Southwestern region of the United States of America. The Tumbleweed Two Step shop gets their jewelry from the reservations of the Hopi, Zuni, Navajo, and Santa Domingo tribes of the Southwestern region. The turquoise that is placed in the earrings, necklaces, bracelets, chokers, and other forms of jewelry are placed there from the Native American people and is deemed authentic in nature.

The Sterling Silver that is used with the blue turquoise truly shows off the blue shade of the turquoise. Of course some of the turquoise is in fact green. However, blue is a primarily used form of turquoise because of the way the silver makes it shine out much brighter than normal. There are also many designs that are used with the turquoise as it is used as an inset for crosses, rosary, belts, handbags, and so much more. The prices for Native American Turquoise jewelry can be found to be considerably affordable to the general public as there are many tourists through the way to the Grand Canyon and many other great sites to see along the southwestern region.

Turquoise has been used and traded since pre-historic times and the story is told that turquoise has stolen its bright blue color from the blue sky above. Each and every gem has its very own appeal and is special in its very own way. Throughout the years, people have loved the precious gem and it shows no wear in its appeal to the human eye now, then, or any time in the future. Each Native American or other artist that uses the gem does so in a very creative and unique way.

Therefore, with every gem being different and every human being different, when a person buys a piece of Native American Turquoise Jewelry, they are truly getting something no one else has. Much of the jewelry is hand crafted and handmade with sterling silver along with the turquoise as well as a hand stamped design to put even more of its uniqueness into the proverbial picture. When looking for a piece of Native American culture to bring home, look no further than Native American Turquoise jewelry. The unique nature as well as the creativity is absolutely magnificent and is sure to catch anyone's eye when they see the piece of jewelry you are wearing.

How A Painted Dough Bowl Adds Great Character To Rustic Decor

The wooden dough bowl has always had a part in the lives of the Tarahumara Indian people. In the mountainous region of Northern Mexico, the Tarahumara people have rugged lifestyles and live in rustic dwellings. They make handcrafts, like wooden dough bowls, in order to earn a living. I have always been impressed with the beautiful baskets, weavings, jewelry and other hand-made items fashioned by this Tribe.

It is very interesting that although the women are primarily the ones who make the crafts to sell, the Tarahumara men are very talented working with wood and create beautiful pieces of art using crude instruments and tools. Along with wooden dough bowls, they also carve wooden spoons, figurines and traditional game balls used in traditional foot races. These items made of wood have a simple, unpolished beauty, complimented by the nature and quality of the wood.

You will also find it fascinating how the wooden dough bowls are crafted. The creation of the wooden bowl is started by hand chiseling a piece of native yellow pine taken from a fallen tree trunk. Native American log bowls are made by splitting the trunk in half and then roughly cutting it with an axe. The wood is then fashioned into a bowl like shape with a machete or large knife, giving it that appealing, rustic style and primitive aspect. This classic style is the same way that all dough bowls have been fashioned throughout the mountain region for generations.

As you learn about these fascinating Indian people, you will learn that the wood dough bowl has an important part in the Tarahumara household. It is used in the process of hand-grinding corn and wheat to make hand-made tortillas, an important part of the Tarahumara diet.

They then start by crushing the kernels into a stone bowl called a metate. The dough bowl is used to catch the flour at one end of the metate as it is ground by hand. Water is then mixed with the flour in the bowl and tortillas are made by hand from the mix. Although still used by the Tarahumara Indians for food and cooking purposes, today dough bowls are offered to the public for rustic home decorating and as Indian art for collecting.

You will love using dough bowls for many things. They look great as collectibles, fruit bowls, and when combined with Native style decorating accessories. They are also great when used for art projects when a blank canvas is needed for colorful paintings and other Native American style artwork.

Dough bowls, painted with cowboy and western scenes, are very popular and are a great way to create western style in your interior design. A painted dough bowl works well as a beautiful main feature for any rustic style room, cabin, lodge or ranch style home by adding the natural warm colors unique to southwestern art.

You can buy wood dough bowls online and in various stores that sell southwestern and American Indian style home decor accessories. It is easy to give genuine Native style to your home, or to give your room an authentic rustic look by decorating with a Native Indian wooden dough bowl.

If you like the unique customs and American Indian values, you will appreciate owning a piece of their amazing artwork as part of your interior design. To add true Native culture to your home and produce a look that is truly unique, try adding a genuine native style wooden dough bowl to your home decor.

Enjoy the Beauty and Splendour of Nice This Summer

Not only a major tourist centre and leading French Riviera beach resort, Nice is also a historical city, blessed with a number of interesting sights. Religious buildings include: the deliciously baroque Cathedrale Orthodoxe Russe Saint-Nicolas, a national monument which would not look out of place in st petersburg; the more traditional Cathedrale Sainte-Réparate; the Eglise Saint-Jacques and the Eglise Sainte Jeanne d'Arc. Dedicated, as the name suggests, to Joan of Arc, the church has been nicknamed 'the meringue' due to its white colour and domed roof and still remains a point of contention for the Niçoise. Deemed ugly by some, it is an excellent tribute to the art nouveau movement and a must-see.

From defensive fort to public park, Le Château is a great place to visit. Although the castle that once perched on the hill is long gone, there are stunning views of the city below and you'll find a grassy park, Roman ruins and a relaxing waterfall.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that Nice is all about seeing and being seen, but culture vultures will also find themselves at home here, in one of the many museums. Art lovers should head to the Musée des Beaux-Arts Jules Chéret , which is set in the former private mansion of a Ukrainian princess and offers the opulence and grandeur synonymous with Nice.

Other recommended museums and art galleries include the Natural HistoryMuseum, the Naval Museum and the Galerie des Ponchettes.

No visit to Nice would be complete without a tour of its old town, or “veille ville”. Splendidly narrow and rambling streets give way to baroque churches, colourful markets and quiet squares. This is a favourite area for locals to meet and an excellent place to start discovering the history of Nice.

The Cours Saleya market, lined with café terraces, is not to be missed. Every day is market day and you'll find anything from flowers to crafts and antiques on offer over the course of a week. This is the place to pick up some great bargains and practice your French bartering skills. Or take a seat at one of the many cafes and simply watch the world go by.

Nice also offers an oasis of greenery with its numerous parks and gardens, the oldest of which is leJardin Albert Premier, which stretches more than two kilometres from the coast towards the hills.

St. Bernadette - What did Mary tell her in secret?

When I was growing up we read about St. Bernadette and Mary's visits with her. One of the things that has always intrigued me is the thing she told her would happen to the world if they didn't pray the rosary. Apparently she told the Pope and the Pope thought it was so bad he wasn't going to release the information until some year (that has come and gone). Does anyone remember that? I have always wondered about that - or is it a Catholic Urban Legend?

The whole Catholic church is based on lies and legends. Even if Bernadette hadn't thought in her delusions that she had been told something, I'm sure the priests would have made it up. What about the fellow with the stigmata? Padre Piu, is it? When investigations into his use of sulphuric acid were getting underway, the Vatican pulled the plug on them. Don't believe anything they tell you. They just want your money.

Project for Lent

February 26th, 2008 raphael's helper No comments

I just read in the Fortune Magazine about two donation websites that put people who request for loans or donations in touch with those who are willing to loan or donate. Both of these websites are non-profit organizations. One is Kiva and the other is Donorschoose.

Kiva focuses of the poor from any part of the world who need loans. It works similar to the world famous Grameen Bank. People who loan money via Kiva expect the loans to be repaid. Kiva's purpose besides getting the two sides together, it also provides an opportunity for the loan provider to keep up-to-date of the progress of the loan requester's business undertaking or project.
Donorschoose on the other hand only focuses on American institutions and gravitate more towards requests from public schools that are unfunded and want to undertake certain projects. Naturally being donations there is no payback. However, the donor is able via the website view the progress of the beneficiary's project.

I think that this is a marvelous project that Catholics can undertake during Lent and of course carry through beyond Lent, for life even. This is a great way to give alms and also be involved. Usually when we give alms we have no idea what happens to the money we donate. This is precisely what the poor need, an opportunity, not simply our well wishes.
